For the Batter

  • 1 1/2 cup Gram Flour besan
  • 1/2 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/2 cup Idli Batter or 3-4 day old dosa batter, using fresh idli batter is recommended for optimal texture. older dosa batter will absorb more oil.
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder adjust to your spice preference., red
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida hing
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1 cup Water add gradually to achieve desired batter consistency.

Other Ingredients

  • 4 Onion large, thinly sliced into rounds
  • 3 cup Oil for deep frying

Prepare the Batter

  • Mix gram flour, rice flour, idli batter, red chili powder, asafoetida, and salt in a bowl. Gradually add water, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter with the consistency of idli batter. Let it rest for at least 15 minutes.
