Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, milk powder, sugar, salt, active dry yeast, and fennel seeds.
  • Add the melted butter (or oil) to the dry ingredients.
  • Gradually add the warm water while mixing to form a dough. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. This develops the gluten for a chewy texture.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm, dark place for about 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Divide the risen dough into four equal portions.
  • Divide each portion into four smaller pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick about 1/2 inch in diameter.
  • Arrange the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each breadstick with milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven, cover loosely with parchment paper, and return to the oven for another 12-15 minutes. This two-stage baking process ensures a crispy exterior.
  • Bake until the breadsticks are golden brown and crunchy. Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with mint tea or your favorite cheese.

Recipe Notes

Good To Know

  • For a sweeter version, add more sugar to the dough.
  • Enhance the flavor by adding black seeds along with the fennel seeds.
  • For a healthier option, substitute whole wheat flour for plain flour.

Expert Tips

  • For a softer breadstick, lightly brush the dough with olive oil before baking.
  • Experiment with different toppings like parmesan cheese, garlic powder, or onion flakes.
  • If using active dry yeast, ensure it's fresh and proof it in warm water with a pinch of sugar before adding it to the dough.

Storage Instructions

  • Store cooled Bosomat in an airtight container with a silica gel packet or a small cloth bag of uncooked rice to help maintain their crispiness for up to a week.
