Instructions

Prepare the Aloo Tikki

  • Boil the potatoes until tender. Peel and mash them thoroughly. Add salt, red chili powder, and chaat masala. Mix well to combine.

Shape and Cook the Tikkis

  • Lightly grease your palms with oil. Take a spoonful of the potato mixture and shape it into a small patty (tikki). Repeat until all the mixture is used.
  • Heat the butter or oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the tikkis in the pan and cook until golden brown and crispy on both sides, flipping halfway through.

Toast the Buns

  • While the tikkis are cooking, slice the burger buns in half. Lightly toast the cut sides in a pan with a little butter until lightly browned.

Assemble the Burger

  • Spread green chutney on one bun half. Layer with lettuce leaves, onion rings, a cooked Aloo Tikki, and a sprinkle of chaat masala. Top with a tomato ring and a slice of cheese (optional).
  • Spread ketchup on the other bun half. Place this half on top of the layered ingredients to complete the burger.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Aloo Tikki Burger!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for the Perfect Aloo Tikki Burger

  • For extra crispy tikkis, let the mashed potatoes rest for 15-20 minutes before shaping them. This helps them firm up.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the tikkis; cook them in batches to ensure even browning and crispiness.
  • Feel free to experiment with different toppings! Add pickled onions, shredded carrots, or other vegetables to customize your burger.
  • Serve with a side of your favorite dipping sauce, such as tamarind chutney or mint yogurt sauce, for an even more flavorful experience.
