Instructions

Prepare the Coconut Mixture

  • Combine grated fresh coconut (or reconstituted desiccated coconut) and sugar in a pan.

Make the Sugar Syrup

  • In a separate saucepan, gently simmer sugar and water until a thick syrup forms.

Combine and Cook

  • Pour the sugar syrup over the coconut mixture. Stir continuously over medium-low heat until the mixture thickens and becomes sticky, about 10-15 minutes.

Add Spices and Camphor

  • Stir in the cardamom powder and a tiny pinch of camphor. Remove from heat immediately.

Shape the Ladoos

  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it's easy to handle. Using your hands, roll the mixture into small balls, shaping them into ladoos.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Coconut Ladoos

  • For a richer flavor, toast the coconut before adding it to the sugar syrup.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference. Some prefer a less sweet ladoo.
  • If the mixture is too sticky, add a tablespoon of desiccated coconut to help absorb the moisture.
  • Store your ladoos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
