Recipe Notes

Can be had as a dessert by increasing sweetness and top it with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and butterscotch sauce.

Additional Tips

  • For a nutty twist and extra crunch, fold in a handful of chopped pistachios or walnuts into the oat topping; this pairs especially well with the Indian spices in the filling.
  • If serving as a dessert, drizzle with warm salted caramel sauce or serve alongside a scoop of vanilla or cardamom ice cream to enhance the sweet and spiced flavors.
  • To prevent the apples from collapsing during baking, choose firm, tart-sweet varieties like Granny Smith or Pink Lady, and avoid hollowing them too thinly—leave at least 1/2 inch of apple flesh around the walls.
  • Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or air fryer at 180°C (350°F) for 8-10 minutes to restore the crisp topping.
