Ingredients
For the Chickpeas
- 1 cup Chickpeas drained and rinsed, dried, or 1 (15-ounce) can
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda helps soften chickpeas during soaking and cooking
- Salt Salt to taste
For the Salad
- 1 large Onion finely chopped
- 1 medium Tomato diced
- 2 Chili finely minced, green, or to taste
- 1 medium Cucumber deseeded and finely chopped
- 1 medium Potato boiled and diced
- 1.5 tbsp Coriander (cilantro), finely chopped
- 1.5 tbsp Chaat Masala
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 3 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/2 cup Cheese amul, crumbled or cubed, optional
- 2 tbsp Oil for optional tempering
- 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds for optional tempering
Instructions
Prepare the Chickpeas
- Soak dried chickpeas in water with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda overnight. Drain and rinse thoroughly. Pressure cook or boil until very tender (about 45-60 minutes). Allow to cool completely.
Make the Salad
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked chickpeas, chopped onion, tomato, green chilies, diced potato, and cucumber. Stir in the chopped coriander leaves, chaat masala, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to combine.
Optional Tempering (Tadka)
- Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and allow to splutter. Pour the tempering over the salad and mix gently.
Serve
- If using, add crumbled Amul cheese just before serving. Serve immediately and enjoy!
