Prepare the Falafel Tikkis

  • Mash the boiled chickpeas in a food processor until coarsely ground. Do not puree.
  • Add the chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chilies, salt, tahini, and cornflour to the chickpeas. Mix well to combine.
  • Shape the mixture into small patties (tikkis).
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the tikkis until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

Prepare the Masala Croutons

  • Cut the bread slices into bite-sized pieces or desired shapes.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the bread pieces until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove from the pan and sprinkle with red chili powder, black pepper, and salt.

Prepare the Yogurt Dip (Optional)

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, olive oil, salt, pepper, and optional sugar until smooth and creamy.

Assemble and Serve

  • Serve the falafel tikkis hot, with a dollop of the yogurt dip (if using) and a crispy masala crouton on top.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips

  • For extra flavor in the falafel tikkis, add a pinch of cumin powder, coriander powder, or garam masala.
  • To make the croutons extra crispy, let them cool completely on a wire rack after frying.
  • If you don't have tahini, you can substitute with a tablespoon of smooth peanut butter or sunflower seed butter.
  • Feel free to experiment with different spices in the croutons and yogurt dip to create your own unique flavor combinations.
