- 1/2 cup Cottage Cheese indian cottage cheese, grated
- 2 tbsp Coriander finely chopped (cilantro)
- 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Dry Mango Powder dry mango powder
- 1/2 tsp Chili Powder adjust to taste, red
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 7-8 Cashews halved
- 2 tbsp Corn Flour cornstarch
For Frying
- Oil for deep frying, vegetable or canola oil
Instructions
Prepare the Tikki Mixture
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, grated paneer, chopped coriander, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, amchur powder, red chili powder, salt, and cornflour. Mix gently until well combined.
Shape the Tikkis
- Lightly oil your hands to prevent sticking. Take small portions of the mixture (about 1.5-2 tablespoons), and roll them into balls. Flatten each ball into a small patty or disc (about 1/2 inch thick). Place a halved cashew in the center of each tikki and gently press to embed it.
Fry the Tikkis
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a deep frying pan or kadai over medium heat. Carefully place the tikkis in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the tikkis until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, turning them occasionally. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
Serve
- Remove the cooked tikkis from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite chutney (mint-coriander chutney is recommended) or a yogurt dip.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Paneer Aloo Tikkis
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala to the tikki mixture.
- If you don't have amchur powder, you can substitute with a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Don't overcrowd the pan while frying; this will lower the oil temperature and result in soggy tikkis. Fry in batches if necessary.
- Adjust the amount of red chili powder according to your spice preference.
