Ingredients
For the Tomato Tempering:
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Lentils black, split black lentils
- 7-8 Curry Leaves
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida hing
- 3 Tomatoes finely chopped, ripe and firm
- 1/2 tsp Salt to taste

Prepare the Tomato Tempering
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Once they splutter, add curry leaves and asafoetida. Sauté briefly.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and salt. Cook over medium heat until the tomatoes are soft and slightly mushy.
- Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Make the Coconut-Chili Paste
- Grind together the grated coconut, green chilies, and ginger into a smooth paste using a little water.
Assemble the Pachadi
- In a bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Add the cooled tomato mixture to the yogurt.
- Stir in the coconut-chili paste, ensuring it is well combined with no lumps.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
