Cooking the Dal

  • Add moong dal, turmeric powder, salt, and water to a pressure cooker (2-3 whistles for soaked dal (for creamy) and 3-5 whistles for unsoaked dal) or if cooking in a pot, simmer covered for 25–30 minutes until the dal is soft.
  • Add chopped spinach to the cooked dal and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the spinach softens.

Tempering

  • Heat oil in a small pan, add cumin seeds, and let them crackle gently.
  • Add red chilli powder to the tempering and pour it over the dal. Mix well.

Final Steps

  • Adjust consistency with water if needed and serve warm.
