Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Chana Dal Soaked for 30 minutes
- 1 1/2 cups Bottle Gourd Peeled and chopped
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder Adjust to taste
- 3/4 tsp Salt Or as required
- 1 cup Water For cooking dal
Instructions
Cooking the Chana Dal
- Add soaked chana dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt to a pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 2–3 whistles on medium heat until the dal is cooked but still holds its shape. For unsoaked dal, cook for 3–5 whistles.
- Allow pressure to release naturally, then drain excess water and keep the dal aside.
Preparing the Stir Fry
- Heat oil in a wide pan and add cumin seeds. Let them crackle gently.
- Add chopped bottle gourd and sauté on medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add cooked chana dal and red chilli powder. Mix gently so the dal and lauki are evenly combined.
- Cover and cook on low heat until the lauki is soft and the mixture turns dry to semi-dry.
Final Steps
- Stir once, adjust seasoning if needed, and switch off the heat. Serve warm.
