- 4 Chili adjust to your spice preference, red
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/3 tsp Vinegar white
- 1-2 tbsp Water as needed for desired chutney consistency
Instructions
Prepare the Filling
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add the chopped onion and cabbage and sauté for 1 minute over high heat.
- Add the green chili, paneer, and salt. Mix well and sauté for another minute. Set aside to cool.
Make the Momo Dough
- In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Assemble the Momos
- Roll out the dough thinly. Use a round cookie cutter (or a small bowl) to cut out circles.
- Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough into a rose shape (plenty of tutorials available online visually demonstrate this step).
Steam the Momos
- Grease a steamer basket with oil. Arrange the momos in the basket, ensuring they don't overcrowd it.
- Steam over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the momos are cooked through and firm.
Make the Garlic Chili Chutney
- Combine garlic cloves, red chilies, salt, and vinegar in a blender or food processor.
- Blend into a smooth paste, adding water as needed to achieve your desired consistency.
Serve
- Serve the steamed momos hot with the garlic chili chutney.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Rose Momos:
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala or ginger-garlic paste to the filling.
- If your dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it's too dry, add a little more water.
- Don't overcrowd the steamer basket; this will ensure even steaming and prevent the momos from sticking together.
- Experiment with different fillings! Try using mushrooms, carrots, or potatoes for variations on this recipe.
