Ingredients
For the Dough
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tbsp Oil vegetable oil or similar
- 1/2 cup Water approximately, add more as needed to form a dough
Instructions
Prepare the Filling
- Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for 1 minute. Add the shredded cabbage and chopped bell pepper; sauté for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened but still crunchy. Stir in salt, black pepper, and green chili. Cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let cool.
Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of oil. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for at least 30 minutes.
Assemble the Momos
- Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle using a rolling pin. Use a cookie cutter or a small bowl to cut out 3 small circles from each rolled-out circle.
- Overlap two circles slightly and place a spoonful of the filling in the center. Carefully fold the edges to create a flower shape. Pinch the edges to seal well.
Steam the Momos
- Grease a steamer basket or plate. Arrange the momos in the steamer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the momos are cooked through and the dough is translucent.
Serve
- Serve the flower-shaped momos hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as chili garlic sauce or a honey-soy sauce.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Flower Momos
- For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of ginger paste or garlic paste to the filling.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it's too dry, add a little more water.
- Don't overcook the filling, as this can make the momos soggy.
- Experiment with different fillings! Try adding carrots, mushrooms, or paneer (Indian cheese).
