Instructions

Make the Simple Syrup

  • Boil 1/2 cup of water and 3 tablespoons of sugar in a small saucepan for a few minutes until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Infuse with Mint

  • Add 6 fresh mint leaves to the cooled simple syrup. Let it infuse for at least 30 minutes, or longer for a stronger mint flavor.

Prepare the Lime Juice

  • Juice 4 limes, aiming for about 1 cup of fresh lime juice.

Combine and Chill

  • Strain the mint syrup to remove the leaves. Stir in the lime juice. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Prepare Mint Ice Cubes (Optional)

  • Fill an ice cube tray with water. Add a small mint sprig and a thin lime wedge to each cube before freezing.

Assemble the Sparkling Limeade

  • In a glass, add a pinch of sea salt and 2 tablespoons of the chilled lime-mint syrup. Pour in 5 cups of sparkling water (club soda). Add ice cubes and garnish with a lime wedge and fresh mint sprig, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for the Best Sparkling Limeade

  • For a sweeter limeade, increase the amount of sugar in the syrup to your preference.
  • Muddle a few mint leaves before adding them to the syrup for a more intense mint flavor.
  • Use high-quality sparkling water for the best fizz and taste. A slightly tart lime will balance the sweetness perfectly.
  • Experiment with other herbs and fruits like basil or raspberries for variations on this refreshing drink.
