Ingredients
 

For the Uttapam Batter

  • 5 slices Bread white bread recommended, crusts removed
  • 1/2 cup Semolina also known as rava
  • 2 tbsp All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
  • 1/2 cup Yogurt plain yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 cup Water as needed for desired batter consistency

For the Uttapam Toppings

  • 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Tomato finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Carrot finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Bell Peppers finely chopped (any color)

  • 2 tbsp Oil or as needed for cooking

Instructions
 

Prepare the Batter

  • Cut the bread into small pieces. In a blender, combine the bread pieces, semolina, all-purpose flour, yogurt, salt, and cumin seeds. Add water gradually while blending until you achieve a smooth, slightly thick batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.

Combine Batter and Toppings

  • Transfer the batter to a bowl. Add the chopped onion, tomato, carrot, and bell pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.

Cook the Uttapam

  • Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot pan, spreading it into a thin, round pancake.

Add Oil and Cook

  • Drizzle a little oil around the edges of the uttapam. Let it cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the edges are set and the bottom is lightly browned. Flip the uttapam and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side until golden brown.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve the hot bread uttapam immediately with your favorite chutney (coconut chutney or green chutney are great options!), tomato ketchup, or sambar.
