Ingredients
Dough
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Milk Powder
- 2 tbsp Active Yeast dry
- 3/4 cup Water warm
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1/4 cup Olive Oil
- 1 tsp Salt
Filling & Topping
- 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded
- 2 tbsp Pepper Flakes red
- 1 tbsp Oregano dried
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy. This activates the yeast and ensures a light and airy dough.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, milk powder, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the garlic butter. Melt the butter in a small saucepan and add the minced garlic. Cook over low heat for a minute or two until fragrant. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or pizza pan.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a large rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Spread the mozzarella cheese evenly over the bottom half of the dough. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
- Fold the top half of the dough over the cheese. Brush the top with the garlic butter and sprinkle with dried oregano.
- Using a sharp knife, make cuts about 1 inch apart, halfway through the dough. Be careful not to cut all the way through. This creates the pull-apart effect.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For an extra depth of flavor, infuse your melted butter or oil with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme before brushing it onto the bread sticks.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, sprinkle a little crushed red pepper flakes or finely chopped jalapeños into the cheese filling before rolling the dough.
- To make ahead, shape and fill the bread sticks, then refrigerate them on a baking tray covered with plastic wrap. Let them come to room temperature and rise slightly before baking.
- Serve with a variety of dips such as warm marinara, pesto, or garlic aioli.
Expert Tips
- Use high-quality mozzarella cheese for the best melting and flavor.
- Don't overfill the breadsticks, as this can cause them to burst during baking.
- For a crispier crust, bake the breadsticks on a pizza stone or baking sheet preheated in the oven.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
