Ingredients
Kohlrabi Preparation
- 250 gm Kohlrabi also known as knol knol or german turnip. peeled and grated.
Aromatics and Spices
- 1 Onion finely chopped, medium
- 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds rai
- 1/4 tsp Gram black, split black gram
- 1 sprig Curry Leaves
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric haldi
- 1 tsp Cumin jeera
- 2 Chili Pepper finely chopped; adjust to your spice preference, green
Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
- Peel and grate the kohlrabi.
- Finely chop the onion and green chilies.
Temper the Spices
- Heat the oil in a pan or kadai. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Wait until they splutter.
- Add the green chilies and curry leaves; saute briefly until fragrant.
Saute the Vegetables
- Add the chopped onions and saute until translucent.
- Add the grated kohlrabi, cumin seeds, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of water, cover, and cook until the kohlrabi is tender.
Finish and Serve
- Remove the lid and stir in the grated coconut. Cook until the raw smell disappears and the mixture is slightly dry.
- Transfer the kohlrabi stir-fry to a serving bowl.
- Serve hot as a side dish with rice or other South Indian dishes.
