Ingredients
Breadcrumbs
- 10 slices Bread white
Spices & Flavorings
- 1/4 cup Nuts cashews, mixed, pistachios; roughly chopped and dry roasted, such as almonds
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
Instructions
Prepare the Breadcrumbs
- Pulse 10 slices of white bread in a food processor until you have fine breadcrumbs. Set aside.
Toast the Breadcrumbs
- Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and toast, stirring frequently, until golden brown. Reduce heat to low to prevent burning.
Add Milk and Sugar
- Pour in 3 cups of whole milk and stir well to combine. The mixture will thicken as the milk is absorbed by the breadcrumbs. Cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until it forms a paste-like consistency.
Incorporate Sugar and Ghee
- Stir in 1.5 cups of powdered sugar. Add the remaining 4 tablespoons of ghee and continue to stir until the halwa starts to come together and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
Finish and Serve
- Stir in the roasted nuts and cardamom powder. Continue cooking for another minute or two until the halwa is thick and creamy. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.

- Spice it Up: Feel free to experiment with other spices, such as a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon, for an added layer of warmth and flavor.
- Garnish and Variations: Garnish with chopped nuts or dried fruits before serving. Add a teaspoon of rose water for extra fragrance.
