Ingredients
- 1 cup Plum Concentrate 200 ml
- 1 cup Caster Sugar
- ¼ tsp Salt or as per taste
- ¼ tsp Cumin Seed or as per taste
- ¼ tsp Pepper black, or as per taste
- ¼ tsp Rock Salt or as per taste
Instructions
Prepare the Plums
- Wash and pit the plums. Roughly chop them.
Cook the Plum Mixture
- Combine the chopped plums, sugar, salt, cumin (if using), and pepper (if using) in a medium saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 20-30 minutes, or until the plums have broken down and the mixture has thickened, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
- If using lemon juice, stir it in during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
Check for Doneness
- The jam is ready when it reaches setting point. A small spoonful dropped onto a chilled plate should wrinkle slightly when pushed with a finger.
Canning (Optional)
- If canning, sterilize jars and lids according to canning instructions. Carefully ladle the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe the rims clean, seal, and process according to your chosen canning method.
Cool and Store
- Allow the jam to cool completely before storing. If not canning, store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Plum Jam

- Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste preference; some plums are naturally sweeter.
- For a smoother jam, blend a portion of the cooked mixture with an immersion blender before letting it cool.
- Always use sterilized jars if canning to prevent spoilage.
