Instructions

Prepare the Lentil Mixture

  • Lightly mash the boiled kidney beans and chickpeas. In a large bowl, combine the mashed beans, mashed potato, breadcrumbs, powdered oats, red chili powder, garam masala, ginger-garlic paste, salt, coriander, and crushed peanuts. Mix well until everything is thoroughly combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Shape the Cutlets

  • Shape the mixture into heart-shaped cutlets using a cookie cutter or a heart-shaped mold. Alternatively, you can form them into small patties.

Fry the Cutlets

  • Heat the oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Carefully place the cutlets into the pan and shallow fry until they are golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Serve

  • Serve the hot heart-shaped lentil cutlets immediately. Garnish as desired. They are delicious on their own or served with a spicy mint chutney or your favorite dipping sauce.

Expert Tips for Perfect Valentine's Day Lentil Cutlets

  • For extra flavor, soak the kidney beans and chickpeas overnight before boiling.
  • If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs or oats to achieve a firmer consistency.
  • Experiment with different spices to customize the flavor profile. Adding a pinch of turmeric for color is a great idea.
  • To make these cutlets ahead of time, prepare the mixture and shape the cutlets, then store them in the refrigerator until ready to fry. This is great for a less stressful morning.
