Ingredients
Soya Burger Patties
- 1 cup Soy Granules
- 1 cup Potatoes boiled, mashed
- 1/2 cup Peas boiled and crushed, green
- 1/4 cup Coriander chopped
- 1-2 Chillies finely chopped, green
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper black
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1/2 tsp Chili Flakes
- 1 tsp Oregano dried
- 2 slices Bread
- 1/4 cup Milk
Burger Assembly
- 4 Burger Buns
- Low-Fat Mayonnaise as needed
- Onion Rings as needed
- Cheese Slices as needed, optional
- Chili Sauce as needed, sweet
Instructions
- In a bowl, soak the soy granules in warm water for 10 minutes to soften. This rehydrates the granules and gives them a meatier texture.
- Drain the soy granules thoroughly, pressing out excess water. Transfer the hydrated granules to a mixing bowl.
- Add the mashed potatoes, crushed green peas, chopped cilantro, and green chilies to the bowl with the soy granules.
- Season the mixture with salt, pepper, garam masala, chili flakes, and dried oregano. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- In a separate small bowl, soak the bread slices in milk until they absorb most of the liquid. Squeeze out any excess milk and crumble the bread into the soy mixture.
- Mix the bread crumbs into the soy mixture until everything is evenly distributed. This helps bind the patties together.
- Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized round patties. Make sure they are compact so they hold their shape during cooking.
- Heat a non-stick grill pan over medium heat. Lightly oil the pan if desired to prevent sticking.
- Place the patties on the hot grill pan and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Lightly toast the burger buns if desired. This adds a nice texture and prevents the buns from getting soggy.
- Spread low-fat mayonnaise on the bottom buns. Top with the cooked soya patties, onion rings, and cheese slices (if using).
- Spread sweet chili sauce on the top buns and place them over the patties. Serve the burgers immediately while they are hot and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- Toast the bread lightly before using it as a binder or as part of your burger assembly. This helps the patties hold together better and adds a subtle crunch.
- For a vegan version, substitute mashed potatoes with boiled and mashed sweet potatoes or cooked chickpeas. Ensure the bread you use is also vegan.
- Add finely grated carrots, zucchini, or spinach to the patty mix for extra nutrition and flavor. Squeeze out excess moisture from the vegetables before mixing to avoid watery patties.
- Prepare and shape the patties ahead of time and chill them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This helps them firm up and reduces the risk of breaking.
Expert Tips
- For a richer flavor, sauté the vegetables before adding them to the patty mix.
- Consider using a burger press to ensure uniform patty size and thickness, which promotes even cooking.
- Experiment with different seasonings and spices to create your own signature burger flavor.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat patties in a skillet over medium heat, or in the microwave until heated through.
