Ingredients
Chicken and Marinade
- 500 gm Chicken bone-in, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Chili Powder red
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 cup Yogurt full-fat, plain
Garnish
- 1/4 cup Coriander dhania, chopped
Cooking Oil
- 2 tbsp Refined Oil vegetable or canola oil
Instructions
Marinate the Chicken
- Marinate the chicken pieces with ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, garam masala, salt, and yogurt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably longer in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.
Sauté Aromatics
- Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pan or pot over medium heat. Add the bay leaf and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
Cook the Chicken
- Add the marinated chicken along with its marinade to the pan. Stir well to coat the chicken in the onions and spices. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender, stirring occasionally.
Simmer and Finish
- If you prefer a saucier Dahi Murg, add 1/4 cup of water to the pan and simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. Stir in the chopped coriander leaves.
Serve
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve your delicious Dahi Murg hot with steamed basmati rice, naan bread, or roti.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Dahi Murg
- For extra flavor, use bone-in chicken thighs or a mix of thighs and breasts.
- If your yogurt is too thick, thin it out slightly with a little water or milk before marinating.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the chicken. Cook in batches if necessary to ensure even browning and cooking.
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of turmeric powder to the marinade.
