Ingredients
Filling
- 1 cup Cottage Cheese crumbled
- 1 1/2 cup Cheese grated, processed
- 1/2 cup Bell Peppers finely chopped, green
- 1 Tbsp Chilies finely chopped, green
- 1 Tbsp Coriander chopped
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tsp Pepper black, crushed
- 1 tsp Oregano dried flakes
- 1 tsp Pepper Flakes red
Parcels
- Samosa Wrappers store-bought or homemade
- 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour for slurry
For Serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled paneer, grated processed cheese, chopped green bell pepper, green chilies, and cilantro.
- Add the salt, crushed black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Shape the paneer mixture into small balls. Set aside.
- Prepare the slurry by whisking together the all-purpose flour with a little water until you achieve a smooth, glue-like consistency. This will help seal the parcels.
- Cut each samosa wrapper into four equal strips.
- Place one strip horizontally and apply a thin layer of slurry in the center. Place another strip vertically on top, forming a cross shape.
- Place a paneer ball in the center of the cross.
- Fold the edges of the wrapper towards the center, overlapping them to create a sealed parcel. Use a little slurry to secure the edges.
- Repeat the process with the remaining paneer balls and samosa strips.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. Carefully place the paneer parcels in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the parcels from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. This helps keep them crispy.
- Serve the Crispy Cheesy Paneer Parcels hot with tomato sauce or your favorite chutney.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a teaspoon of chaat masala or a squeeze of lime juice to the paneer-cheese filling before sealing the parcels.
- If you prefer a crunchier parcel, brush the exterior lightly with oil or ghee and bake at 200°C (390°F) for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, instead of deep-frying.
- To make these parcels ahead for parties, assemble and freeze them individually on a tray, then transfer to a ziplock bag; fry or bake directly from frozen, adding 2-3 extra minutes to the cooking time.
- For a fusion twist, add a tablespoon of finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes or olives to the filling for a burst of umami and color.
Expert Tips
- Use fresh, high-quality paneer for the best flavor and texture. If using store-bought paneer, soak it in warm water for 10-15 minutes before crumbling to soften it.
- Don't overfill the parcels, as this can cause them to burst during cooking. Leave some space for the filling to expand.
- Serve these paneer parcels with a side of mint-coriander chutney or tamarind date chutney for dipping.
Storage Instructions
- Leftover paneer parcels can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a preheated oven or air fryer until warmed through.
