Instructions
Prepare the Potato Filling
- Pressure cook the cubed potatoes for 3-4 whistles with 2 cups of water. Once pressure releases naturally, drain the water, let cool, peel, and mash the potatoes.
- Boil green peas separately until tender, drain, and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add mashed potatoes, green peas, turmeric powder, salt, and coriander. Mix well and let cool completely.
Make the Batter
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, chili powder, turmeric powder, carom seeds, asafoetida, and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a smooth batter forms, similar in consistency to dosa batter.
Assemble and Fry the Pakoras
- Spread a layer of the potato mixture evenly on each slice of bread.
- Dip each bread slice into the batter, ensuring both sides are coated.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for deep frying. Carefully drop the bread pakoras into the hot oil.
- Fry, flipping occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Cut each pakora into 2-4 triangular pieces.
Serve
- Serve hot Bread Pakoras with tomato ketchup or your favorite chutney.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Bread Pakoras
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala to the potato filling.
- Ensure the oil is hot enough before adding the pakoras; this will help them crisp up nicely.
- Don't overcrowd the pan while frying. Fry in batches to maintain the oil temperature and ensure even cooking.
- If you prefer a less spicy pakora, reduce the amount of chili powder in the batter.
