Instructions

Prepare the Bread Cups

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin.
  • Cut brown bread slices into 4-inch squares. Using a small bowl or ramekin as a template, cut out circles from the squares.
  • Lightly brush the bread circles with oil. Gently press each circle into the muffin tin cups to form the bread cups.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly.

Prepare the Moong Dal Salad

  • Cook 1/2 cup moong dal in 1/2 cup water with 1/4 teaspoon salt and red chili powder until tender. Set aside to cool completely.
  • In a bowl, combine cooked and cooled moong dal, diced boiled potatoes, chopped onions, and chopped tomatoes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, black salt, cumin powder, black pepper, and remaining salt.
  • Add the yogurt mixture to the dal mixture and stir gently to combine.

Assemble and Serve

  • Spoon the dal salad into the baked bread cups.
  • Garnish with nylon sev, if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for the Best Dal Salad Bread Cups

  • Soaking the moong dal for at least 30 minutes before cooking will help it cook faster and become more tender.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garam masala or turmeric to the dal salad.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of spices to your liking. If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the amount of chili powder.
  • If you don't have nylon sev, you can garnish with chopped cilantro or a sprinkle of roasted peanuts for added texture and flavor.
