Recipe Notes

Additional Tips

  • For an authentic Indian twist, spread a thin layer of tangy green chutney (made with coriander, mint, green chili, and lemon juice) on one side of the bread before assembling the sandwich.
  • To add extra crunch and flavor, sprinkle a few thin slices of onion or a handful of sev (crispy chickpea noodles) between the layers just before serving.
  • If you prefer a grilled version, toast the assembled sandwich on a tawa or sandwich press with a little butter until golden and crispy, then cut into triangles for classic presentation.
  • For a vegan option, use plant-based butter and cheese, and check that your bread is dairy-free; you can also add thin slices of tomato or beetroot for more color and nutrition.
