Ingredients
For the Macaroni and Cheese Filling
- 1 cup Macaroni elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup Corn kernels, sweet
- 1/2 cup Bell Peppers finely chopped, tri-color
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 Onion finely chopped, medium
- 1 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Milk
- 2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1/2 tsp Pepper black, freshly ground
- 1 tsp Pepper Flakes red, to taste or more
- 1 tbsp Italian Seasoning dried
- 50 gm Cheese processed, shredded
- 2 tbsp Pasta Sauce red
For the Bread Bowls
- 5 Bread Roll large, round rolls
- 1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese for topping, shredded
Instructions
Prepare the Macaroni and Cheese
- Cook macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Cheese Sauce
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
- Season with salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning. Stir in processed cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add cooked macaroni, corn, and bell peppers. Stir to combine and remove from heat.
Assemble and Bake the Bread Bowls
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully scoop out the insides of the bread rolls, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Reserve the bread crumbs for another use (croutons, breading, etc.).
- Spread a thin layer of red pasta sauce inside each bread bowl.
- Fill each bread bowl with the macaroni and cheese mixture.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is lightly toasted.
