Ingredients
Produce
- 1 large Potato peeled and julienned
Flavorings
- 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tsp Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Dried Fenugreek Leaf (dried fenugreek leaves)
Oil
- Olive Oil as needed, for shallow frying, or butter
Instructions
- Peel the potato and julienne it. Rinse the julienned potato under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch, resulting in crispier treats.
- In a bowl, combine the mixed flour, salt, black pepper, kasuri methi, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Whisk until smooth.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and lightly coat it with olive oil or butter. Spread the julienned potato in a single layer on the pan.
- Pour the batter over the potatoes, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for several minutes.
- Once the bottom is golden brown and cooked through, lightly grease the pan again and carefully flip the potato cake. Cook the other side until golden brown. Covering the pan helps the potatoes cook evenly and creates a softer texture.
- Remove the potato cake from the pan and let it cool slightly. Cut it into pieces that will fit comfortably in the tiffin box.
- Pack the potato treats in a metal tiffin box. Add some fresh fruits for a balanced and appealing meal.
- Close the tiffin box securely.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- Try to avoid using ordinary plastic tiffin boxes, which can be harmful.
- Avoid packing overly liquid or watery recipes in a tiffin box.
- Mixed flour typically consists of wheat flour, chana flour (gram flour), corn flour, and rice flour.
- To add extra protein and fiber, mix in a handful of cooked and mashed lentils or chickpeas with the potato before forming the snack mixture.
- For a subtle crunch and added flavor, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds or crushed peanuts on top before cooking or baking.
- If you prefer milder flavors, sauté the ginger and garlic paste briefly before mixing to mellow their sharpness.
- To keep the snack moist and soft in the tiffin box, wrap them in parchment paper or a banana leaf before packing.
Expert Tips
- Customize the mixed flour blend to your preference or dietary needs. For example, you can substitute some of the wheat flour with whole wheat flour or oat flour for added fiber.
- Get creative with the flavorings! Add spices like turmeric, cumin, or coriander powder for an extra depth of flavor.
- If making these for younger children, ensure all ingredients are finely chopped or mashed to prevent choking hazards.
Storage Instructions
- These snacks are best enjoyed fresh. However, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Gently reheat before serving.
