  • 150 gm Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 3 Chilis finely chopped, green
  • 700 gm Chicken bone-in or boneless, cut into bite-sized pieces

Sauté Aromatics

  • Heat mustard oil in a pressure cooker. Once smoking, add cumin seeds, then immediately add the chopped onions. Cook until onions are dark brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute.

Cook Chicken and Spices

  • Add the chicken pieces and cook for 5-6 minutes. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and green chilies, and cook for another 5 minutes. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and black pepper powder. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Layer Rice and Cook

  • Layer the rinsed basmati rice evenly over the chicken mixture. Do not stir. Carefully pour 2 cups of water into the cooker. Secure the lid and cook on high pressure for 1 whistle. Turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally.

Garnish and Serve

  • Once the pressure is released, fluff the rice gently with a fork. Garnish with fresh cilantro and thinly sliced green chilies. Serve hot with mint yogurt (optional).
