Instructions
Prepare the Dough
- Mix gram flour, oil, kasuri methi, salt, red chili powder, anise seeds, and carom seeds in a large bowl.
- Gradually add water while mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 15 minutes.
Roll and Cook the Roti
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about lemon-sized).
- Roll each ball into a thin, circular roti using a rolling pin.
Cooking on the Tawa
- Heat a flat griddle or tawa over medium heat.
- Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about 30 seconds per side, or until small bubbles start to appear.
Direct Flame Cooking

Serve
- Spread butter or ghee over the cooked roti.
- Serve hot with your favorite curry or dal.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Missi Roti
- For a softer roti, add a little more water to the dough. For a crispier roti, use slightly less water.
- Don't over-knead the dough, as this can make the roti tough.
- If the dough feels sticky, dust your hands with a little flour while rolling.
- Use a preheated tawa for even cooking. If the tawa is too hot, the roti will burn quickly.
