Ingredients
For the Soya-Chana Dal Mix
- 1/2 cup Split Chickpea split chickpeas
- 1/4 cup Soybeans dried
- 1 tsp Chili Powder red
- 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
For the Appams
- 1 cup Appam Batter store-bought or homemade
- 1/2 cup Soya-chana dal mix finely ground and cooked
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Ghee for greasing
- 1 cup Water for cooking the dal
Instructions
Prepare the Soya-Chana Dal Mix
- Rinse the chana dal and soybeans thoroughly. Combine them in a pot with 1 cup of water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the dal and soybeans are completely cooked and soft. Drain any excess water.
Blend the Dal Mix
- Add the cooked dal and soybeans to a blender along with red chili powder and salt. Blend until you achieve a smooth, fine paste.
Combine with Appam Batter
- In a bowl, gently combine the appam batter and the soya-chana dal mixture. Add salt to taste. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.
Steam the Mini Appams
- Grease small idli molds or a mini muffin tin generously with ghee. Pour the batter into each mold, filling them about ¾ full.
Cooking and Serving
- Steam the mini appams for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and firm to the touch. Remove from the steamer and serve hot.
