Divide and Color the Dough
- Divide the dough in half. Keep one half plain (white). To the other half, add the red food coloring and mix until you achieve your desired pink hue.
Chill the Dough
- Cover both dough halves with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This will make the dough easier to roll and prevent spreading during baking.
Roll, Cut, and Bake
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly flour your work surface. Roll out one dough color at a time to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Baking and Cooling
- Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
