Ingredients
For the Cauliflower
- 1 medium Cauliflower cut into bite-sized florets
- 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
- 1/4 cup Corn Flour
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1/2 tsp Pepper black
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Water or as needed to make a smooth batter
- 2 cup Vegetable Oil for deep frying
For the Sweet and Sour Sauce
- 1 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 3 tbsp Ketchup
- 2 tsp Soy Sauce
- 2 tsp Vinegar white
- 1 tsp Sugar or to taste
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ginger-garlic paste, ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, and olive oil. Set aside.
Make the Batter
- In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and baking soda. Gradually whisk in the water until you have a smooth batter.
Coat and Fry the Cauliflower
- Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat. Carefully add the battered cauliflower florets and fry until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Remove Excess Oil
- Remove the fried cauliflower from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Combine Cauliflower and Sauce
- In a clean pan or wok, heat the prepared sweet and sour sauce over medium heat. Simmer for about 2 minutes. Add the fried cauliflower and gently toss to coat the florets evenly with the sauce.
Garnish and Serve
- Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Expert Tips for the Best Sweet and Sour Cauliflower
- For extra crispy cauliflower, ensure your batter is not too runny. Adjust the water accordingly.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when frying the cauliflower; work in batches to ensure even cooking and browning.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- Feel free to experiment with other vegetables. Adding bell peppers or broccoli would be a delicious addition.
