Ingredients
Dough
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 cup Water as needed
- 1 cup Butter softened
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic. This develops the gluten for a flaky pastry.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangular sheet. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- Fold the dough in thirds like a letter, then turn it 90 degrees. Repeat the rolling, buttering, and folding process 5-6 times. This creates the layers in the puff pastry.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped mushrooms and sauté until softened.
- Add the chopped spinach and salt to the pan. Cook until the spinach wilts and any excess moisture evaporates.
- Stir in the pizza seasoning. Remove from heat and let the filling cool. Once cooled, mix in the grated cheese.
- Roll out the puff pastry dough into a thin rectangle. Cut the dough into strips.
- Place a spoonful of the spinach and mushroom filling onto each strip. Lightly wet the edges of the pastry with water and fold over to seal, forming cigar shapes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the puff pastry cigars for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the warm Spinach and Mushroom Puff Pastry Cigars immediately.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips
- For a richer flavor, use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of bottled.
- Adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or less sugar.
- If you don't have fresh mint, you can substitute with a small amount of dried mint, but use sparingly as the flavor is more concentrated.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
