Instructions

Prepare the Filling

  • Combine grated paneer, grated cheese, finely chopped green chilies, finely chopped capsicum, chopped coriander, and salt in a bowl. Mix well to create a uniform filling.

Prepare the Bread

  • Lightly press each bread slice with a rolling pin to slightly flatten them.

Make the Flour Paste

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and water until a smooth, thick paste forms. Adjust water as needed to reach desired consistency.

Assemble the Bread Cigars

  • Spread a thin layer of the flour paste evenly over each flattened bread slice.
  • Place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the center of each bread slice.
  • Fold the bread over the filling to create a cigar shape, sealing the edges firmly. Repeat with remaining bread and filling.

Chill and Fry

  • Refrigerate the assembled bread cigars for at least 15 minutes to allow the filling to set and the bread to firm up.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat.
  • Carefully place the bread cigars in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry until golden brown on all sides, flipping occasionally to ensure even cooking. Maintain medium heat to prevent burning.

Drain and Serve

  • Remove the fried bread cigars from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve hot with your favorite chutney or dipping sauce.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Bread Cigars

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala or other spices to the paneer filling.
  • If using a thicker bread, you may need to adjust the amount of filling used.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan while frying, as this can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy cigars.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two, but they may lose some crispiness.
