Ingredients
For the Filling
- 1 cup Cottage Cheese grated, paneer
- 1 cup Cheese grated (cheddar or mozzarella recommended)
- 2 Chilies finely chopped, green
- 1 Bell Peppers bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
For the Coating
- 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour maida
- 1/4 cup Water
Instructions
Prepare the Filling
- Combine grated paneer, grated cheese, finely chopped green chilies, finely chopped capsicum, chopped coriander, and salt in a bowl. Mix well to create a uniform filling.
Prepare the Bread
- Lightly press each bread slice with a rolling pin to slightly flatten them.
Make the Flour Paste
- In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and water until a smooth, thick paste forms. Adjust water as needed to reach desired consistency.
Assemble the Bread Cigars
- Spread a thin layer of the flour paste evenly over each flattened bread slice.
- Place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the center of each bread slice.
- Fold the bread over the filling to create a cigar shape, sealing the edges firmly. Repeat with remaining bread and filling.
Chill and Fry
- Refrigerate the assembled bread cigars for at least 15 minutes to allow the filling to set and the bread to firm up.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat.
- Carefully place the bread cigars in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry until golden brown on all sides, flipping occasionally to ensure even cooking. Maintain medium heat to prevent burning.
Drain and Serve
- Remove the fried bread cigars from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite chutney or dipping sauce.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Bread Cigars
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala or other spices to the paneer filling.
- If using a thicker bread, you may need to adjust the amount of filling used.
- Don't overcrowd the pan while frying, as this can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy cigars.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two, but they may lose some crispiness.
