Ingredients

- 3 medium Potato boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup Coriander chopped, fresh
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Chili Powder adjust to taste, red
- 1/2 tsp Carom Seeds ajwain
- 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
For the Pakora Batter
- 1 cup Gram Flour besan
- 1/2 cup Rice Flour for extra crispiness, optional
- 1 cup Water add gradually to reach desired consistency
- 1/4 tsp Salt to taste
Other Ingredients
- 4 slices Bread brown
- 1 tbsp Mustard Oil for greasing the griddle
Instructions
Prepare the Potato Filling
- Mash the boiled potatoes well. Add the chopped coriander, garam masala, red chili powder, carom seeds, and salt. Mix thoroughly to combine.
Prepare the Batter
- In a bowl, whisk together the gram flour, rice flour (if using), salt, and water until you achieve a smooth, pourable batter. The consistency should be slightly thinner than pancake batter.
Assemble and Cook the Pakoras
- Spread a thin layer of the potato mixture onto one slice of brown bread. Top with another slice of bread to create a sandwich.
- Dip each bread pakora into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated.
- Heat a tawa (griddle) or a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with mustard oil.
- Carefully place the battered bread pakoras onto the hot tawa. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking. Add a tiny amount of oil to the sides as needed to prevent sticking and encourage crispiness.
Serve
- Once cooked, remove the pakoras from the tawa and cut each one in half. Serve hot with your favorite chutney or ketchup.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Bread Pakoras
- For extra crispy pakoras, add a pinch of baking soda to the batter.
- Don't overcrowd the pan; cook the pakoras in batches to ensure even browning and crispiness.
- Adjust the spices to your preference. Feel free to add other spices like cumin powder or turmeric for extra flavor.
- If you prefer a less oily pakora, you can bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
