Instructions

Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  • Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and ajwain in a medium bowl. Set aside.

Cream the Butter and Sugar

  • In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. You can use a hand mixer or a whisk for this step.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Rest the Dough

  • Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax, resulting in softer cookies.

Shape and Bake the Cookies

  • Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter (or a knife) to cut out desired shapes. Arrange the cookies on a microwave-safe plate.

Microwave Baking

  • Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave's wattage. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Cooling and Serving

  • Remove the cookies from the microwave and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Microwave Ajwain Cookies

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of salt to the dry ingredients.
  • If your butter is too cold, it will be difficult to cream it with the sugar. Make sure it's softened to room temperature.
  • Don't overmix the dough, as this can result in tough cookies.
  • Experiment with different spices! A pinch of cardamom or cinnamon would complement the ajwain beautifully.
