Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • Combine all-purpose flour and salt in a bowl. Add melted ghee and rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Gradually add water, mixing until a smooth, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Make the Filling

  • In a separate bowl, combine khoya, desiccated coconut, powdered sugar, and chopped mixed nuts. Mix well until evenly combined.

Assemble the Gujia

  • Roll out small portions of the dough into thin circles (about 4-5 inches in diameter).
  • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle.
  • Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, carefully pressing the edges to seal. You can crimp the edges with a fork or your fingers for a decorative finish.

Fry the Gujia

  • Heat ghee in a deep pan or kadai over medium heat.
  • Carefully add the Gujia to the hot ghee, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if necessary.
  • Fry until the Gujia are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.

Finish and Serve

  • Remove the Gujia from the ghee and place them on a wire rack or paper towel to drain excess oil.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
