Instructions
Prepare the Mozzarella Steaks
- Cut the mozzarella into steak shapes, about 1cm thick.
- Sprinkle with mixed herbs, salt, and pepper. Gently toss to coat.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the cornflour and water to form a smooth slurry.
- Dip each mozzarella steak into the cornflour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
- Then, coat each steak in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Place the breaded mozzarella steaks on a plate and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes to allow the breading to set.
Fry the Mozzarella Steaks
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Carefully add the mozzarella steaks to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Avoid overcrowding the pan; fry in batches if necessary.
- Remove the fried mozzarella steaks from the pan and place them on a wire rack to drain excess oil.
Make the Balsamic Cherry Tomato Salad
- Halve the cherry tomatoes.
- Tear the Lollo Rosso lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Add the halved cherry tomatoes and Lollo Rosso lettuce to the bowl and toss gently to combine.

- Top with the crispy fried mozzarella steaks and serve immediately.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips
- For extra flavor, marinate the mozzarella steaks in a mixture of olive oil and herbs for 30 minutes before breading.
- If you don't have Lollo Rosso, you can substitute with other types of lettuce, such as arugula or baby spinach.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the balsamic vinaigrette.
- To prevent the mozzarella from becoming rubbery, don't overcrowd the pan when frying. Fry in batches to ensure even browning and crispiness.
