Ingredients
For the Fried Fruit
- 4 Figs Or Plums
- 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour whole
- 2 tsp Corn Flour
- 2 tsp Semolina also known as suji
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Active Yeast dry
- 1/4 cup Water or as needed to form a paste
- 1 cup Vegetable Oil for frying
For the Rose Petal Berry Sauce
- 1 cup Berries and blueberries, mixed, strawberries, such as raspberries
- 1/2 cup Rose Petals culinary grade, fresh or dried
- 1/2 cup Sugar granulated or caster sugar
- 1/2 cup Water
Instructions
Prepare the Batter
- Mix whole wheat flour, cornflour, semolina, salt, and yeast in a bowl. Gradually add water, mixing until a thick, smooth paste forms. Let the batter rest for 1 hour in a warm place to allow the yeast to activate.
Fry the Figs or Plums
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Dip each fig or plum into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Carefully place the coated fruit into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Make the Rose Petal Berry Sauce
- In a saucepan, combine mixed berries, rose petals, sugar, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and continue to simmer until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, about 10-15 minutes. Strain the sauce if desired, to remove any seeds or large pieces of rose petals.
Assemble and Serve
- Serve the crispy fried figs or plums immediately, drizzled generously with the rose petal berry sauce. Garnish with fresh rose petals for an extra touch of elegance.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips
- For extra crispy fruit, ensure the oil is hot enough before frying. Test by dropping a small piece of batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.
- If using dried rose petals, soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes before adding them to the sauce to rehydrate them and enhance their flavor.
- Adjust the amount of sugar in the sauce to your liking. If your berries are particularly tart, you may want to add a bit more sugar.
- Feel free to experiment with different types of berries in the sauce. A combination of raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries would also be delicious.
