Ingredients
For the Aloo Tikki
- 2 large Potatoes and mashed, boiled, peeled
- 1 medium Onion finely chopped
- 2 Chilies finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference), green
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 0.5 tsp Chili Powder red
- 0.25 tsp Garam Masala
- 0.5 cup Breadcrumb
- 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped, for garnish (optional)
For Frying
- 2 cup Oil for shallow frying
Instructions
Prepare the Potato Mixture
- Combine mashed potatoes, chopped onions, green chilies, salt, red chili powder, garam masala, and breadcrumbs in a large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Shape the Tikkis
- Take small, lemon-sized portions of the potato mixture and shape them into flat, round patties (tikkis).
Shallow Fry the Tikkis
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Gently place the tikkis in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Shallow fry the tikkis until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides, flipping as needed.
Drain and Serve
- Remove the fried tikkis from the pan and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves (optional) and serve hot with your favorite chutneys, yogurt dips, or tomato ketchup.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Aloo Tikkis
- For extra crispy tikkis, refrigerate the shaped patties for at least 30 minutes before frying.
- Don't overcrowd the pan while frying; fry in batches to ensure even browning and crispiness.
- Adjust the amount of green chilies according to your spice preference. For milder tikkis, use fewer chilies or omit them altogether.
- Experiment with different chutneys and dips to find your perfect pairing! Mint chutney, tamarind chutney, and yogurt raita are all excellent choices.
