Taking fresh Keto chocolate shake is always refreshing, but there are times you want to make an extra batch to save time. You want to come home tired and get a refreshing cup of chocolate shake from the refrigerator. It is better than the afternoon coffee break or bagel, huh?
A shake can stay longer, say 24 hours, unlike juice that can only last for 12 hours at most. You can store your extra batch of chocolate shake in glass containers with airtight lids. Ensure that they are filled to the brim to block any air from getting trapped inside the container. If you leave air in the jar, the nutrients within the shake will be oxidized.
Equipment for Storing Chocolate Shake
A chocolate shake, when exposed to air after preparation, will bet oxidized. Oxidation degrades nutrients in your chocolate shake and makes it less nutritious. You have to make sure that your storage containers are closed tightly before refrigeration.
Adding lemon to your shake can also prevent your shakes from oxidation. The containers below are recommended for storing keto chocolate shakes:
Plastic Ziploc bags are ideal for storing chocolate shake packs in the freezer. The bags work well when you don’t have plenty of freezer space. If you have ample space and you don’t feel comfortable with plastic Ziploc bags, you can use freezer-safe containers or quart-size Mason jars.
Mason Freezer safe jars require enough freezer space. They can also be used for smoothies, salad dressing, broth, soups, and much more. Their wide mouth and thick glass make them freezer-safe and perfect for freezing your keto chocolate shakes.
Popsicle molds come in two forms of one-time use and reusable. The one-time use plastic Popsicle molds are suitable to use if you are traveling or as a lunchbox. You will not need to wash them after use. You can safely freeze your chocolate shakes in Popsicle molds.
You can prepare your chocolate shakes and keep them in chilled insulated containers. These containers will keep them cold for twelve hours. Insulated containers are suitable if you are traveling with your shakes. Before drinking, just shake the containers vigorously to blend the ingredients. A food thermometer can be used to ensure that the shakes remain below 400F.
Pack Ingredients Separately
You can also pack your non-perishable ingredients together with a blender or shaker bottle where you will mix your shake later in the day. Have two scoops of protein powder with you, and soy milk together with sealed fruit juice. Use the powder and liquid with other ingredients in your shaker and shake them well for a minute before drinking.
Methods of Storing Chocolate Shakes
The methods below can be used to store your chocolate packs for a day, a week, or a month.
Freezer chocolate shake Packs
If you want to avoid plastic but still want to prepare chocolate shake packs, fill the mason jars or Ziploc bags with the chocolate shake ingredients. Then freeze the jars or bags, and when you want your chocolate shake, you will just pull a package from the freezer and blend it. With this option, you can enjoy your shakes up to 6 months.
Blend Your Shakes and Freeze
This option allows you to blend your chocolate shakes and pour them in freezer safe jars before freezing them. You should have enough freezer space for storing the jars. Before you drink the shake, you will place the jar in the fridge to defrost overnight and put it on the counter to hasten the defrost process. You can also carry it in your lunch box to defrost before lunchtime.
Blend and Refrigerate Your Shakes
You can prepare your chocolate shakes in the morning and store them in airtight containers before refrigerating them. The containers do not need to be freezer-safe. Keto chocolate shakes can stay for one to two days in the refrigerator. When you take your chocolate shake from the freezer, shake the container and stir the contents well in case they are separated and go ahead and enjoy the shake.
There are a lot of storage options for your keto chocolate shaker depending on how long you want them stored. You can prepare your shakes in the morning and refrigerated them for use later in the day. Or you can pack them in freezer-safe containers and freeze them for long term use. Remember that cold foods should be stored at 400F or below to prevent the growth of bacteria or spoilage.
