Are You Giving Pure Milk To Your Kids?

Do you know why milk is called a complete food?

Because it contains all the nutrients which are required for human growth such as fat, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, iron etc. along with various fatty acids which are useful for life.  Hence, it is also important to know about common adulterations in milk.

Water is one such adulterant which is commonly added to milk. Do you remember how the milkman cheated us by adding water to the milk and we fought with him without having any proof for it? So here is an easy way, you can check water adulteration in milk.

How to test water adulteration in milk?

For this testing, we would need a very simple instrument called lactometer (low-cost instrument, available online as well as in physical stores). The lactometer usually shows the reading from 0 (Zero) to 40.  Lactometer is designed in such a way that it shows “0” (zero) reading when kept in water.

So if you put the lactometer in water it will show the reading of zero (can be used to check calibration) whereas if the same lactometer is placed in pure milk the reading would be from 30-32.

The Video shared below shows how you can test the purity of milk using a lactometer. Take water and put it in lactometer jar. It should read Zero. Now take fresh and pure milk in the jar and put the lactometer it will show a reading of 31. Half empty the jar, add water to the milk making milk adulterated, now dip the lactometer in it.
