Ingredients
For the Green Layer (Matar)
- 1 cup Peas fresh or frozen; can be pureed or finely chopped, green
- 2 tbsp Desiccated Coconut
- 1 tbsp Chili Paste adjust to taste, green
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon ground
- 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder roasted
- 2 tsp Coriander Powder roasted
- 1 tsp Salt or to taste
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil refined
For the White Layer (Paneer)
- 1 cup Cottage Cheese indian cottage cheese, mashed or finely grated
- 1 tbsp Desiccated Coconut
For the Saffron Layer (Chana Dal)
- 1 cup Split Chickpea split chickpeas; can be pureed or finely ground
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder roasted
- 2 tsp Coriander Powder roasted
- 1/2 tsp Pepper Powder black
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon ground
- 1 pinch Nutmeg ground
- 1 tsp Salt or to taste
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil refined
For Garnishing
- 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds roasted
Instructions
Prepare the Green Layer
- Heat oil in a pan. Add green peas (pureed or chopped), desiccated coconut, green chili paste, cinnamon, ginger paste, roasted cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Stir continuously until a thick, cohesive dough forms. Set aside.
Prepare the White Layer
- In a separate bowl, mash or finely grate the paneer. Mix in 1 tbsp of desiccated coconut. Set aside.
Prepare the Saffron Layer
- Heat oil in a pan. Add chana dal (pureed or ground), turmeric powder, roasted cumin powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until a thick, cohesive dough forms. Set aside.
Assemble the Tiranga Bahar
- Lightly grease a small dish or mold. Spread the green pea dough evenly at the bottom. Layer the paneer mixture on top. Finally, spread the chana dal dough on top.
Garnish and Serve
- Garnish with roasted sesame seeds. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the layers to set. Serve chilled and enjoy!
