Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Chop the lemongrass stalk into roughly 1-inch pieces. If using a cinnamon stick, break it into smaller pieces.

Boil the Tea

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the chopped lemongrass, cinnamon (stick or powder), and turmeric powder.

Simmer and Steep

  • Reduce heat to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let the tea steep for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to fully infuse.

Strain and Serve

  • Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a mug or cup, discarding the solids. Add honey or maple syrup to taste, if desired. Enjoy your warm and soothing herbal tea!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips

  • Fresh is Best: If possible, use fresh turmeric root for a more intense flavor. Peel and grate about 1 teaspoon of fresh turmeric root as a substitute for the powdered turmeric.
  • Adjust to Taste: Feel free to adjust the amount of spices to your liking. If you prefer a stronger cinnamon flavor, add more cinnamon. Likewise, for a more pronounced turmeric flavor, use a bit more turmeric.
  • Spice Variations: Experiment with adding other spices to enhance the flavor profile. A pinch of ginger or cardamom can create a lovely warmth, or a few cloves of crushed cloves could add a unique depth to the brew.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve warm and enjoy on its own. A squeeze of fresh lime or lemon juice can also enhance the flavor and add a refreshing twist.
