Ingredients
Paan Mixture
- 5 Betel Leaves
- 4 Cardamom Pods green
- 1 Tbsp Gulkand rose petal jam
- 3 tsp Sugar
Liquid Ingredients
- 2 tsp Khus Syrup
- 2 cup Water
Garnish & Ice
- Ice Cubes as needed
- Cherries dried
- 2 Betel Leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Roughly chop the betel leaves. Place them on a cutting board and crush them thoroughly using a rolling pin. This releases their aromatic oils and flavor. Alternatively, you can pulse them briefly in a grinder, but crushing yields a more authentic taste.
- Add the cardamom pods, gulkand, and sugar to the crushed betel leaves. Continue crushing until all ingredients are well combined and fragrant.
- Transfer the paan mixture to a jug or large glass. Pour in the khus syrup.
- Add 1 cup of water to the jug. Stir well to combine the ingredients and begin dissolving the sugar.
- Add the remaining cup of water and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. This ensures a smooth and evenly flavored mocktail. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any solids.
- Fill two glasses halfway with ice cubes. Add a small spoonful of gulkand to the bottom of each glass for an extra touch of sweetness. Pour the strained paan mixture over the ice.
- Garnish each glass with a dried cherry and a fresh betel leaf, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing taste of Paan Delight.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For an authentic touch, garnish each glass with a fresh betel leaf or edible silver leaf (varq).
- If you prefer a more pronounced floral note, infuse the water with dried rose petals for several hours before preparing the syrup, then strain.
- To make a vegan-friendly version, ensure your syrup does not contain honey and use fresh or canned cherries without added animal-derived ingredients.
- Serve Pan Delight over crushed ice and top with a splash of sparkling water for a fizzier, more refreshing texture.
Expert Tips
- Adjust the sweetness of the syrup to your liking by adding more or less sugar.
- Experiment with different spices like cardamom or cloves in the syrup for a unique flavor profile.
- For a visually appealing presentation, layer the Pan Delight ingredients in a tall glass.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover Pan Delight syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Prepare the fruit and other components fresh for each serving.
