Instructions
- Making homemade pizza involves three key stages: preparing the dough, making the sauce, and assembling the pizza with your favorite toppings. This recipe provides a comprehensive guide for each step.
How do you make pizza dough
- Creating the pizza dough is the foundation of a great pizza. Don't be intimidated – it's easier than you think!
- Activate the yeast by combining it with 50ml of lukewarm water and sugar in a medium bowl. Let it stand until frothy, about 5-10 minutes. This allows the yeast to come to life and ensures a light and airy dough.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the olive oil and the yeast mixture. Using your fingertips, mix until the ingredients are just combined.
- Gradually add the remaining 70ml of lukewarm water while kneading the dough. The dough will be sticky at first, but continue kneading for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth, elastic, and no longer sticks to your hands. Kneading develops the gluten, which gives the crust its structure.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with cling wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size. After rising, punch down the dough to release the air and knead for another 5 minutes. This second kneading helps create an even texture.
How do you make pizza sauce
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the chopped garlic and onion for about 5 minutes, until softened and fragrant.
- Add the deseeded tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, sugar, crushed black peppercorns, and mixed herbs to the pan. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
How do you make Pizza at home
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). While the oven heats, roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness, about ½ cm.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a greased baking sheet or pizza stone. Prick the dough all over with a fork. This prevents the dough from puffing up excessively during baking.
- Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Arrange your chosen toppings – sliced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, cottage cheese, and olives – over the sauce.
- Sprinkle generously with grated mozzarella cheese and pizza seasoning. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving. Add a sprinkle of chili flakes for extra heat, if desired.
