Instructions

Prepare the Tamarind

  • Soak the tamarind pulp in warm water for 2-3 hours. Remove any seeds and set aside.

Combine Ingredients

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the soaked tamarind pulp, jaggery, rock salt, roasted cumin seeds, black pepper, table salt, mint leaves, and water.

Blend

  • Blend until the mixture is completely smooth. If using a regular blender, you may need to stop and stir a few times to ensure even blending.

Strain (Optional)

  • For a smoother Jal Jeera, strain the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any remaining solids. This step is optional.

Chill & Serve

  • Chill the Jal Jeera in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve over ice in tall glasses, garnished with lemon wedges and boondi (optional).

Enjoy!

  • Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing homemade Jal Jeera!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for the Perfect Jal Jeera

  • Adjust sweetness: Start with the suggested amount of jaggery and adjust to your preferred level of sweetness.
  • Spice it up: For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few extra black peppercorns.
  • Fresh is best: Use fresh mint leaves for the most vibrant flavor. If fresh mint isn't available, you can substitute with a small amount of dried mint.
  • Experiment with garnishes: Get creative with your garnishes! Try adding a sprig of cilantro, a few cucumber slices, or even a sprinkle of chaat masala for an extra layer of flavor.
