Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) for 10 minutes.

Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, sift together the whole wheat flour, chickpea flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and cardamom three times. Set aside.

Cream Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy. Gradually add the oil, vanilla extract, and beat for another 5 minutes until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate spread. If the batter seems too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk.

Prepare and Bake the Cake

  • Grease and flour an 8 or 9-inch round cake pan (or line with parchment paper). Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly on top.

Bake and Cool

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before serving.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for the Perfect Cake:

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • Don't overmix the batter; overmixing can result in a tough cake.
  • For a moister cake, add a tablespoon or two of milk if necessary.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting (if desired) to prevent the frosting from melting.
