Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Wheat Flour whole, wwf
- 1/2 cup Gram Flour also known as gram flour; ensure it's not besan channa aata.
- 1 tsp Baking Powder bp
- 1 tsp Baking Soda bs
- 5 tbsp Cocoa Powder unsweetened; i used cadbury's.
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom elaichi, ground
Wet Ingredients
- 4 Egg large, regular eggs
- 3/4 cup Vegetable Oil canola oil or your preferred oil
- 3/4 cup Sugar powdered
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Mix-ins
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp Chocolate Spread hershey's chocolate spread or similar; almond spread may also be used
Optional
- 1-2 tbsp Milk add if batter is too thick
Instructions
Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) for 10 minutes.
Combine Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, sift together the whole wheat flour, chickpea flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and cardamom three times. Set aside.
Cream Wet Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy. Gradually add the oil, vanilla extract, and beat for another 5 minutes until well combined.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate spread. If the batter seems too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk.
Prepare and Bake the Cake
- Grease and flour an 8 or 9-inch round cake pan (or line with parchment paper). Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly on top.
Bake and Cool
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before serving.
