Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
- 1/2 cup Milk Powder
- 1 cup Sugar powdered
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Butter softened, unsalted
- 1 cup Milk more may be needed for desired consistency
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Other
- 1 Baking Pan 9-inch, greased and floured, round
- Toothpick for doneness test
Instructions
Preheat & Prep
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
Cream Butter & Sugar
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer.
Add Wet Ingredients
- Beat in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the milk, mixing until well combined.
Combine Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, milk powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
Combine Wet and Dry
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing gently with a spatula or wooden spoon using a cut and fold method until just combined. Add more milk if the batter is too thick.
Divide & Add Cocoa
- Divide the batter into two equal portions. Add the cocoa powder to one portion and mix well. Add a little milk if needed to achieve a smooth consistency.
Layer the Batter
- Spoon tablespoons of each batter (plain and cocoa) alternately into the prepared pan, starting with a spoonful of plain batter in the center. You can swirl the batter slightly with a toothpick for a marbled effect, or leave it as is for more defined stripes.
Bake the Cake
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool & Enjoy
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, slice and serve.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for the Perfect Eggless Zebra Cake
- For extra moist cake, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
- Don't overmix the batter, as this can lead to a tough cake. Mix only until the ingredients are just combined.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- Get creative with the design! Use a toothpick or knife to swirl the batter for a more marbled effect, or leave it as is for a more striped look.
